Description
Framed map of the province of Prince Edward Island. As the title indicates, the map shows Prince Edward Island divided into counties (shown in blue, yellow and pink), parishes and the Holland lots. An inset in the upper left quadrant shows the Island in context in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. A table in the upper left corner shows the acreage amounts of the common lots and pasture lots of the three royalties: Charlotte Town, George Town and Prince Town. A table directly below shows the acreages of Queens, Kings and Prince counties and the total for the Island. The acreage amounts for each lot and each parish are shown on the map. The map shows roads. Stippling and soundings are used to indicate depths. The map has a bar scale in miles and a compass rose with a north arrow and rhumb lines. This map is notable for being the first to show Prince Edward Island with its present name, according to information on the Artefacts Canada section of the Canadian Heritage Information Network website.
